光影筆記本50/Pride and Prejudice

I saw this film a couple of weeks ago and afterward I've been re-reading the book. It must have been at least five years since I last touched Jane Austen's stuff. Although I prefer this book to Sense and Sensibility, I rather think Ang Lee did a much better job with the film adaptation than this one I saw recently.

Elizabeth Bennet is played by Keira Knightley (hmm, not a big fan of her but I seem to have seen almost all her films...) well, the girls I went to see this film with didn't like her performance much, but somehow I think she's a competent Elizabeth--young, witty, playful and slightly boyish.

Matthew McFaydyen's Mr. Darcy isn't bad. (Pretty good casting, actually. I like Mrs. Bennet too.) Colin Firth's shadow here and there, but that's what most of the audience look for anyway.

我覺得這部片對情感的處理不夠細緻,不過要把一本豐富的著作濃縮在2小時的電影中,本來就得捨棄很多東西,現在想想,李安的'理性與感性'真是經典傑作。

Still not sure what I thought of that film... I don't think anyone else can truly be Mr Darcy except Colin Firth, although this guy did a resonable job. I need to re-read the book too... So many books to read... Waiting for the new Zadie Smith to come out in paperback though...

I have heard good things about the recent P&P film. I heard that it pays less attention to the costumes and more to the story-telling, something that many period dramas seem to trip-up on in my opinion. I should have joined you guys when you went to see it.

I am also waiting for the paperback of the new Zadie Smith novel. I haven't seen any reviews for it yet, but I hope it goes back to the high standards of 'White Teeth'.
