Unlike some of you, I didn't feel this film reminded me of 'Lost in Translation'. Jarmusch's directing work in 'Broken Flowers' is close to that of Tsai Ming-liang (an arthouse film director from Taiwan). If you enjoyed this film you might like to check out some of Tsai's films.
I like that the director makes you look for pink stuff when visiting ex-girlfriends of Don's. And that whenever you see figures who look 19-year-old, you can't help wondering if that's Don's son. The design works and it feels great.
How unbearable tho, being forced to go back to one's shattered past, not even trying to mend wounds of any sort, or picking up broken pieces of hearts. And you find this entertaining? Some say depressing, but I rather think what is reflected is how mentally numb people can be and want to be. Is Don a changed man after the road trip? Has he found something back? some sort of answer that he didn't intend to search for? Is it necessarily doing him any good? I don't know any yes-or-no to the above, but let's try not to be like him.

I saw this film last week too and like it! And I like the ending of this film--it's like all these coinsidences in life that one tries to figure out the relation and meaning hidden behind, are actually meaningless. They are just coinsidences.

It's 2:26am. We had daylight saving adjustment today that I practically earned one more hour, which I somehow wasted away...I have been writing nonstop since Friday, but the dissertation proposal still seems a long way to go...(sigh)
anyhow, I will go see Liz Phair on Tues, and will start my new tennis course on the same day. Hopefully, it will be a creative and productive new week. Same blessings for you~
