17 Dec

Life is in a way rather simple, at least at this very minute. Staring at this amazing babe lying right next to me..., I am enjoying this rare moment of pure concentration.

becoming happier

Ever since I heard that name again I became slightly blue whenever I thought about that year. The really naive me and a few Sunday afternoons. I almost forgot every bit of it but the leftover memory was enough to arouse my feelings, driving me melancholy. Somehow I could not really recall what at all really happened and how it ended. This is a bit sad. I thought it meant something to me. It was probably all good and our story just naturally faded away like most other things in life. Yet the me right now is so stubborn about figuring out what I meant in all this. Now I suddenly realise why I felt so blue. Let bygones be bygones. I take things too seriously. Looking for trouble. I'm my own invisible monster.

---

I could not enjoy my work fully because I thought too much about becoming the one influential tutor in my students' eyes. I need to care less about it. Stop being so self-conscious. I am my own demanding boss. Intimidating myself so unnecessarily.

secret, 我的衣櫃,你的毛衣

This is said to be a song about ecstasy.
She records ecstasy.

躺在你的衣櫃
by Cheer Chen

moody

No wonder I did not enjoy last week! According to the above excerpt, I now understand that one thought of something negative can activate a chain of related matters hidden in one's memory and therefore one becomes much sadder.

Not much point creating such a miserable situation for oneself, or is there?

Happy 2008!

2008 is a pretty number. I like the shape of the four digits put together.

I just received an E-Card from my friend S. An interactive one:

'click a number'

to see what my new year's resolution is. I chose 8, and here it goes:

Just be a happy nut.

Heehee... It won't be a difficult one. :)

2007. Before and after my holiday in south Wales for Christmas I managed to meet up with several friends to exchange greetings and good wishes. Mulled-wine sessions started in early December! Also, thanks to two friends' birthday party invites. I have recently started feeling really warm at heart, and I think this is the right feeling for a properly happy person at this time of year, besides, I feel the peace deep in my heart too. Not gonna sound too profound, but I am a very lucky person, truly.

2007 is gone. I know this does not take away unsolved troubles, but I have finally realised that lingering around them does not make anything easier.

New Year's Eve. Doing the count-down outside York Minster was lovely. I would not have done this 3 years in a row if it were otherwise. Surrounding me was a lot of love and felicitation: couples kissing, big grins, hugs, loving gazes...

then we came home to play guitar and sang till we could not keep our eyes open any more...

2008 will be the year I leave this marvellous city, where I have piled up bitter sweet memories since 2003. It will be a year for some changes. I will think of the friendship with the really amazing people I met here.

A new start.
I am not afraid.

Gloomy? No!

I got all encouraged again after the tutorial. Although there's still a lot to do, at least I know nothing is in the way to stop my submission of thesis this June. Besides, I'm going on the right direction, and I've said meaningful things! I've made it doable! Some of my designs have been accepted, and my effort was not in vain. I could make it visible for others to see significance of some issues. It feels great. As if I hit the right cymbal for the right moment!

Two things happened this morning to bring in even more delights. One was that, with some really crucial help, I was told I might actually be able to go ahead with my plan to help out with an artist's gigs in the UK and Europe. My master plan... The other thing is that, me and a previous tutor of mine (back in 1993!!!) are in touch again!! And he remembers me!! Oh that summer!

Wedding Invite

<-- wedding

<--engagement party

------

My brother is getting married on 18th December 2006.

Delighted by the good news, I thought of this poem 'To Us' by Soleil, here's a stanza:

they say,
You found the other half!
you do not make me complete, as I am already complete
you make me better
[read the poem]

I like the romantic reasoning on love in this, and also I'm exceedingly proud of my brother, who has the mentality to create happiness, and the immense courage to love. I am happy for them.

birthday wishes

if someone collects happiness data from you today, will you tick the box and let the score be 10?

music in the jungle

One guitar, a few bottles and sticks, and several friends--after the jungle music DJ turned off his machines, music went on~~an unplugged concert... Oh, pass on the guitar! Whose turn? Our little jam for the birthday boys and girls (and ourselves). I could almost see the campfire in the middle of our circle, and we were all dancing around it happily. Let it go on fervently!

One thing though. Sadly that, with so many environmenalists in the jungle, rubbish was dealt with in a careless way. Scandalous.

2.9.06

fun, unlimited

Grinny grandad, the vibes, and their friendliness;
v+lemonades amongst pretty face, Dr.T, and me;
tides of teasings from the-monkey-expert, hmm, at this very second some revengeful ideas emerged;
was so silly to go on about recording;
long-hair guitarist who has a sweet voice will give me lessons;

Beautiful smiles!!

If only I could forget about all that stresses me!

But I also have to say, at times my own bizarreness annoys myself so much, ah, repentance...

3.8.06

lyrics

While I was half asleep I was invited to write lyrics for a song to be recorded in the 'York 2006' CD. I now think I am extremely honoured to be asked, but I'm freaking out just thinking about it...

Recently the most impressive lyrics I heard was a German tune, and these are the two words I remember: schinken und eier. Ha! I'll always think about schinken und eier when I think about Brimham Rocks, and not many people would know why in the world I would think that..

27.7.06

nice weather and joyful moments

Birthday picnic near the river was fantastic! These people (and loads more to join in after I took this photo) they are perhaps the group who manage to each bring a pack of crisps but no two packs are the same flavour!! Sporty and friendly, all of them...

I thought I could have slept there on the grass...

Finland won.

We were such childish souls--after the show (Eurovision song contest) at first we tried to dance, (they should have played us that Finland song nonstop!!) then the bar got shut (but parties went on!!), we then sat in a squeezed way by the lake (as seen in films, the ones that would also make you nostalgic), some of us were about to jump in for a swim and did get themselves wet and stinky (sensible ones ignored such challenges), back indoors some happily went totally naked or down just in pants (nice bodies lads), and got told off by a scary woman, ha ha, hilarious. Flick flickers, snaps taken. Wow wow wow.. Just couldn't stop giggling. We were rowing so much too over loads of nonsense matters (speaking to one another in two different languages at times) but all the rubbish was simply funny. An extraordinary night (including B&B) it was. :)

PS. I regretfully report here that Leeds United did not win today's game...

6.5.06

C64

Perhaps out of the fear to stand on the stage and also the pressure from the attempt to look energetic and at the same time charming, afterward I almost thought I was gonna faint or be sick. Nowhere to sit so I just leaned against something then went half asleep while the lot continued fulfilling their dancing desire, which, in my opinion, was aroused by C64 and the bumblebee. :)

Solidarity! C was absolutely sweet--I really felt we were in this together since the moment I promised to do the dancing with her: exchanging messages about how nervous we felt, deciding what to wear, getting ready together, screaming at the back stage to release pressure, ordering/delivering/eating pizzas in short skirts and geisha makeup.

Fantastic fun. I'll never forget....

'Computerpunk' love!
By Wanyu Lin
After being a member of the audience at Fibbers on countless occasions, WL finally gets a taste of what it's like to look back at the crowd from the stage. And what better way to start a career on stage than by dancing for a 'computerpunk' band?! [Click me]
