Went to see Marc-André Hamelin

Tonight was probably the first time I went to a concert where Beethoven's Sonatas no. 30 in E major and no. 31 in A flat major were played--really touching!! Hamelin was great, although a couple of times I was distracted by the way he moved his body when playing (we were sitting directly facing his back, I was thinking, oh, that's what a pianist's back looks like..). I think I prefer the second half when he played Schubert's sonata in b flat.

I was thinking about what my brother told me about Schubert. Pop music of his days are now classical in our era..

Such a nice experience didn't cost a penny at all for York students, but there were mainly senior citizens there. The other night at the theatre it was pretty similar. Actually, when I was at the cinema the other night it was so too! In this country it seems like the older you get the more you enjoy your lives...

Then what a contrast in the bar we went afterward--people there were all like under 20, drinking vodka and red bull, talking rubbish and playing pool rubbishly. Only the bartender was older than me there.

And I was told to mention the pianist's shoes. They look really soft, almost like a pair of socks...

Was it a university-related bar? Were these all undergraduates? I find that being in universities makes me feel quite old.
