光影筆記本 94/ Hallam Foe

I found myself feeling rather depressed after this film. Perhaps the journey Hallam Foe undergoes is a bit too harsh? Who says growing up needs to hurt so much?

One other thing that upsets me is that when watching it, at first I could not help but comparing Hallam Foe's reaction to that of Hamlet's, who also mourns the death of a parent in the beginning of the play, then later becomes stuck in the bitterness and self-pity owing to such bereavement. Seriously I tried so hard to switch off that annoying channel of my analytical brain, I shouted at myself, couldn't you, for just once, enjoy the images and music, and stop analysing things so much!!!

The film makes me miss living in the UK. The lake is such a scene, and to think about that it's a private lake, gosh! With such a view to enjoy, how could the family still feel so unhappy, why still stick so much to all those troubles and problems?! I said to C that, just look at the tranquility and feel it!

Ooh, and also my beloved old town Edinburgh; through this film we get to see it from a very rare angle: from rooftops...
