Ooh, and I rather wish that experimental clinic in the story could help me the other way: instill in me all that I need to know about England in the age of Renaissance... I'm suffering under a sort of 'eternal blackcloud of an ignorant brain'...

i'm a bit worried you might not like it... (i think you don't like in the mood for love and before sunrise... the films that i really love...) which is ok tho!! we don't have to like the same films...
do check out 'happy together' tho... it is indeed much better than brokeback mountain...i promise!!!
I like both Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, so probably I'll like it. I did like In The Mood For Love, it's just that I should watch it again to appreciate it fully. As for the other one, it was ok, but I wasn't too keen on either of the characters.
about before sunrise...
OK, the characters are a bit boring, and pretencious (your term), but they seem pretty real to me--so I feel I could really relate myself to them, and feel the tension between them, the what's-gonna-happen expectation, and also the bitterness (the sweet sorrow of parting) when the sun rises...
And 'in the mood for love', again, it is the suppression of desires and the intolerable necessity of disappointment in the story that really gets me...
Wanyu, I am still not convinced that 'Happy Together' is better than 'Brokeback Mountain'.
Also I like the fact that once more you have managed to bring up that film's name. 'Brokeback Mountain' must have deeply effected you!
